Looking Forward to our Move

Today, we got confirmation that we are approved for the lease in Floyd.  Along with our application, our landlord said that he recieved the latest "Mother Earth News" which featured articles on raised bed gardening as well as family living in a small space.  Both artices will be good or us to read, as we are are planning of raising beds for gardening and are a family of 6 (soon to be 7) livng in a relatively small house.

Personally, I am excited about Floyd County.  I know that there is a thriving music community there, one which I can grow as a musician in.  I know that the Floyd Country Store has open jam sessions every Friday night, so I guess that I know where I will be.  I also think that I can possibly get Van driver in there as well, along with some of the other venues in Roanoke proper.

Moving and stuff like that.

Life has a way of being difficult. Some would say that life is a challenge, and I would agree. Others would say that life is a test, and I would agree with that too. But mostly, I think that life is an opportunity and that there is a guide line that you should follow to attain the objectives that you wish to set your opportunity to work for. Focus on your goals, stay persistent, and don't compromise on the end result.

For example, I used to own a burgundy Toyota Camry. It was a great car, though I think that it was finally killed by the person that I passed the car along too... but that is another story. Then I owned another car... same year, make and model, but white in color. That car lasted a while, but died a hard death one day as a power steering fluid leak ate through the timing belt while the car was driving. This is a good way to destroy the inside of your engine.

Inspired by my own passion, and an old friend

The last time that I played music with Jonathan Byrd, he was on his journey through his musical self exploration trek by way of a study of folk music roots. He had shared stories of his pitching a tent in an Ireland farm field, sleeping by day while lasting out the night playing in the village pubs with average, everyday people that lived and breathed the stuff that is human music. I'm sure that there was a good bit of the finest beer in that mix too... at least, there would have been if it had been me. By that time, I, too was on my own path, but my study was not so serious, nor was it in that style... I believe that I was kicking around with the Shakedowns, a 60's style mod rock band here in the Richmond area. Needless to say, I had no understanding of his style of play, and he told me so while I played along with some of his traditional style stuff. He had no reservations about asking me, "What are you doing?" in regards to my bass lines.
